Pathological Lying: Case Studies
(These case studies were sent to by Osric University by Internet users and by no means reflect the research of Osric University scholars.)
Desc. of male pathological liar, age unknown:
I am researching [pathological lying] because I believe my husband is one. I have such
a long list of lies he has told me (and these are just ones I find out about).
The worst part about the lies is I can have proof in my hand and he still
tries to lie about it.
- He told me he was 6 years younger then he was. I had to keep drilling him
because he messed up on his year of birth.
- He did not tell me he lived with his girlfriend and their 3 kids. Every other
week I would find out about another kid. Example: found a receipt for the
doctor under his daughter's name. Asked him who S___ was he said his cousin.
Asked why he was paying for it: "to help out." His other daughter I found out
through conversation with one of his family members. When I
confronted him he said it was not his.
- He will call in sick and then tell me he had the day off.
- He tells everyone he is [a] chef when really he is a cook. He tells people we
make $90K a year when really it is only $60K.
- Tells people (out of state) that we just paid cash for a "luxury" car when we
did not and it was only a mid-size car.
- Last night he said he was home by 5pm (I wasn't here) I checked his cell
phone and he called home at 5:30pm, so why would he call home if he was home?
- I overheard a conversation while he was on the phone, I told him I did not
like what he was telling the other person, then he said he did not say it.
[These are] just a very few examples. I wish I
had a tape recorder to replay to him because he flatly denies [his lies].
Even if I had it on tape he would still think of something [to explain away his lies].
